The Unknown Cretaceous King of India
When you talk about dinosaurs, you usually think about the carnivore T-rex. But have you heard about the Indian carnivore Rajasaurus Narmadensis. Let's discuss this big lizard in today’s post.
There are many of these creatures that were Indian in origin. The Rajasaurus is one of them. The dinosaur is said to be 6.6 meters in length, 2.4 meters in height and 4 METRIC TONNES in weight.
A paleontologist, Suresh Srivastava from Jaipur discovered the dinosaur in 1983, from the fossil graveyard at Rahioli, in the Kheda district of Gujarat. The creature sports a peculiar crest hence giving it the name ‘Rajasaurus’ which means ‘Royal-lizard’.
It hunted small sauropods (This term refers to herbivorous dinosaurs with awkwardly long necks and tails). Some experts tell us that the Rajasaurus may have had other herbivores for lunch as well.
Now let's talk about our opinions.
We feel that this late cretaceous (period the dinosaur lived in) reptilian gives the country of India some pride when we compare it with famous dinosaurs like the T-rex and the Aero dactyl and adding yet another bookmark in our thousand plus legendary history of our civilization.
This dinosaur, although it is relatively unknown, is one of the most brutal dinosaurs in the world. We are pleasantly happy to know that this dinosaur is one of the exclusives in India.
