The Vighnaharta's Birthday
As per historical records, the great Maratha leader Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaja initiated Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in Maharashtra to promote the spirit of nationalism. It would later be carried on by the Peshwas(prime ministers of the Maratha empire).
Till now it was only a private matter but, the Freedom Fighter Lokma Nya Tilak encouraged people to put up big Pandals and come out in public in mass numbers which were against the policy of the British. Hence, symbolizing a freedom movement.

The Modak (Indian sweet) in Ganesh's hand symbolizes attainment of ‘Ultimate Bliss’. One hand is used to shower blessings on the ones who have faith and have surrendered to him. Opinions are always a part of our blogs… It is that time now.
We think that this is a beautiful tradition that should be continued and its significance should be passed down many generations.
But on the other hand, I think that a pooja for Ganesh shouldn’t use too many resources.

DeleteVery nice and informative sum up of the history & significance behind Ganesh chaturthi celebrations. Yes and rightly pointed out,, pooja shouldn't use too many resources. The essence behind celebrations; personal or in public should not be lost behind all the pomp & show.
ReplyDeleteExcellent compilation of information . I strongly agree with the idea of not using too many resources for puja because somewhere it causes damage to our environment. I appreciate if 3 boys will include some ideas to make the festive celebration eco friendly.
