The Light Days
The festival of lights is here and you now have a blog about it. Back to back blogs about festivals and traditions…. Let's go.
Deepavali is celebrated with people bursting crackers, lighting up diyas and eating a lot of sweets. The festival is filled with amazing lights and smoke (we will talk about that later). The festival usually lasts five days and is celebrated during the Hindu lunisolar month Kartika.
The festival is celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and some Buddhists.
Hindus consider it an auspicious day to make new purchases, especially jewellery, as well as new utensils, appliances and even vehicles.
Sikhs on the other hand celebrate a festival called Bandi Chhor Divas translating to prisoners release day. This day marks the release of their sixth guru Harigobind and 52 princes from the Gwalior fortress.
Jains decorate their living and working spaces and distribute sweets for the bright festival.
Most Buddhists don’t celebrate Deepavali, but the Newar people of Nepal celebrate the Holy festival by praying to the Goddess Lakshmi.
Many North-East Indians, however, believe that it was the goddess Kali who killed Narakasura. This is why the day is also observed as Kali Chaudas. Hindus celebrate this day as a victory of good over evil and as a reminder to follow the spiritual path
At midnight Kali killed Narakasura, so the South Indians celebrate Deepavali on this day.
On the other hand, North Indians celebrate Deepavali on the day Rama and Sita returned to Ayodhya after the events of Ramayana.
Now we want to inform you about the pollution from the lamps and crackers. In Chennai, on November 4th, there was a layer of smoke just stagnant, like fog. This was because of too many crackers.
Now for the important part:-”OPINIONS” .
It is important that we protect our environment and cause minimal pollution, So as a substitute for crackers we should eat sweets in large quantities and spend time with family.
For us our opinion is the same as the Ganesh Chaturti post, the tradition is awesome but we have to make sure that doing the rituals and bursting crackers doesn't harm the environment.
