The Reptilians who lived beside Dinosaurs

Image
There are many deadly animals out there. But one reptile sticks out the most, the venomous snakes. Scary! There are over 3,000 species of snakes in the world and around 600 are venomous and over 200 are considered to be medically important, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Saw-Scaled Viper (Echis Carinatus) – The Deadliest Snake In The World. Although its venom is not very potent, the Saw-Scaled Viper is considered as one of the world's deadliest snakes as it is believed to be responsible for more human fatalities than all other snakes put together. Most snakes have trouble at a speed of 1mph and their average speed is between 1-3 miles per hour. Exceptional snakes like the Black Mamba have been documented to reach speeds of 10-12 miles per hour in short bursts and the Sidewinder at 18 miles per hour. The Red Racer reaches a speed of about 3 miles per hour It is hard to believe but snakes have many enemies. Large birds, wild boars, mongooses, raccoons, foxes, coy...

The Lethal Handheld Cannons

Image
Well there were bow and arrows, but they weren't accurate enough. Then came crossbows. This solved the problem of accuracy, and also increased damage. But, again people wanted a ranged weapon that could kill with one shot.  The first device identified as a gun, a bamboo tube that used gunpowder to fire a spear, appeared in China around AD 1000. The Chinese had previously invented gunpowder in the 9th century. They named it 火槍 (musket), but it is now known as Fire Lances. It all started around 850 C.E., when Chinese alchemists accidentally created gunpowder while trying to develop a "fountain of youth" potion (like why????). The resulting powder, called huo yao, was a blend of charcoal, saltpeter and sulfur. They quickly learned the powder could be used in warfare.  The first battles actually to be decided by firearms were fought between French and Spanish troops on Italian soil early in the 16th century; these included Cerignola (1503), Marignano (1515), Bicocca (1522),...

Myths and Legends: Ep1: The Origin of the Elephant God

Image
FINALLY!!!! The first post of the Myths and Legends Series is here. Yea we changed the name… And also on the original post.  Parvati has a bath everyday, like everyone else (or do you?). She was sick of her husband, Lord Shiva, coming to the bathing place (researched a lot and could not find the actual name of the place). So, she asked Nandhi to make sure no one (Even Shiva himself) comes inside the bathing place when Parvati was bathing.  But, when Shiva came to meet Parvati, Nandhi let Shiva go in without even asking Parvati. Parvati was enraged when she realized that Nandhi let Shiva inside, even though Parvati ordered him to stop this.  She demanded that Shiva leave the bathing place. He did oblige. After her bath, Parvati made her first child with turmeric powder she used for her bath and made a little boy who would only listen to her.  The next day, Parvati told Ganesh to stop anyone who tries to come into the bathing area when she is in there. Long stor...

Back To School

Image
School, if we like it or not, all of us have faced this chapter at some point in our lives. Currently the Indian Government gave an issue to start the schools. We are going to give you the good things and bad things about the topic. The best thing about starting school again is that we can FINALLY meet our friends in real life!!!! By going to school, we can be more productive. There are also lesser distractions while doing classes (video games, YouTube and much more). It is also easier for us to learn because in person learning is more interactive than online classes could ever be. Also, Physical Education classes would give the students more exercise and fun at the same time. The pros are out of the way. Time for the negative cons.   It Is more unsafe than staying at home and attending online classes. They would invoke more paranoia in students and parents. There is a concern whether all children and teachers follow COVID-19 safety protocols strictly without doubt .There is...

Myths and Legends: Ep 0: Introduction

Image
We are starting a new series. And it is going to last for a long long time. Myths are stories that are based on tradition. Some may have factual origins, while others are completely fictional. Myths are sacred tales that explain the world and man's experience. A Legend is a traditional story sometimes popularly regarded as historical but not authenticated. There are so many Myths and Legends that we are going to make it an ongoing mega series that never stops. There is no exact day of the week that we will post this series, so we recommend that you come at the end of the week so you can expect the post. Same for the rest of the posts.  As we are only teenagers, we can’t post on an exact day of the week because of some variables. So just come at the end of every week to see 3 new posts. Also, our pictures are going to be hand drawn from now on, because we cannot find images that don’t have copyright on them. So we are making them ourselves. Note: we are making images for only...

The New Kid

It’s always a challenge for new students to make friends and to blend in. It is our responsibility to keep our fellow students safe and comfortable. It’s especially a big challenge when a new soul walks in through the door and wants to establish herself/ himself. It is our duty as fellow students and friends to help them establish their fortress in our boundary and create a healthy network with the others.  As we know “it’s not always easy as it sounds”. In this article we are going to explore the different ways in which a new student can integrate themselves in our class and how we can help them. First contact When a new student walks in through those doors it’s up to us and the new student and us that we have a memorable first contact together.  A first contact can be talking, sharing an experience, playing together, etc.  In order for the student to achieve this he / she should interact and express himself/herself and participate in various activities: detect a ...

The Light Days

Image
The festival of lights is here and you now have a blog about it. Back to back blogs about festivals and traditions…. Let's go. Deepavali is celebrated with people bursting crackers, lighting up diyas and eating a lot of sweets. The festival is filled with amazing lights and smoke (we will talk about that later). The festival usually lasts five days and is celebrated during the Hindu lunisolar month Kartika. The festival is celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and some Buddhists. Hindus consider it an auspicious day to make new purchases, especially jewellery, as well as new utensils, appliances and even vehicles. Sikhs on the other hand celebrate a festival called Bandi Chhor Divas translating to prisoners release day. This day marks the release of their sixth guru Harigobind and 52 princes from the Gwalior fortress.  Jains decorate their living and working spaces and distribute sweets for the bright festival. Most Buddhists don’t celebrate Deepavali, but the Newar people of Nepal ce...

The Scary Day

Image
Halloween is here. The scary festival needs us to post a new blog about it. Nope. Anyways, here is a post for good measure. Halloween is when children dressed in costumes knock on people’s doors. They say the famous phrase,’Trick or treat’. You better give them candy before they trick you. Alright now for the history. The festival originated from modern day Ireland. This was about 2000 years ago. They used to celebrate New Year on November First, now known as All Saints Day.  It is believed that boundaries between our realm and the realm of the dead would break and they would invade.  The term ‘Halloween’ literally means Hollow eve or Holy night.  The celtish even started some traditions which we still follow till this day, They would dress up as ghosts because it was believed that it will chase if the bad spirits, to invite the good spirits on the other hand they would carve faces on turnips and decorate it since it was believed that it will invite the good spirits....
